Get Precise: Handling Units and Fractions in Recipes

From milliliters to tablespoons, Menutech lets you define ingredients with the right unit for every context. Here’s how to manage units—and what to keep in mind when making changes.

🔁 How to Switch Ingredient Units

To change the unit of an ingredient in a recipe:

  1. Go to the Ingredients screen
  2. Update the unit field (e.g. change “g” to “ml” or “tablespoon”)

⚠️ Important: Changing the unit does not trigger an automatic conversion.

Only the unit label changes—the quantity stays the same. If needed, adjust the number manually to reflect the new unit.

🥄 Supported Small Units

Menutech supports a few small, non-metric units, including:

  • Tablespoon
  • Teaspoon

These are useful for small quantities of liquids or seasonings. They can be used in recipes and will display correctly in exports, but they don’t support advanced scaling or procurement features.

Units like “pinch,” “dash,” or “bunch” are not supported, as they lack standardized conversion values and can’t be used in calculations.

➗ Fractions Logic

Ingredient quantities must be entered as decimals—fractions like ½ are not supported.

For example, use:

  • 0.5 for half a teaspoon
  • 1.25 for one and a quarter liters
